On the 50th Anniversary of Scooby Doo

Something I’ve always wondered: Have Scooby Doo and the Mystery Machine gang ever refused to out someone they caught because they felt sympathetically toward them?

Scooby Doo seems to take place in a morally simplistic universe where people only do evil for gain — and not survival. Or self-defense.

Or have I just not seen enough Scooby Doo?

Was there ever an episode where the gang find that farmer Johnson was, say, pretending to be a monster because he was trying to save his family farm from developers who wanted to turn it into a WalMart?

And did the gang just say, to the sheriff, “well, I never thought I’d say this but I guess that monster is real AF!”, then shrug their shoulders and just pile into that van of theirs and peel out?

"Ceci n'est pas Scooby-Doo."
